Our Mission

The mission of Common Ground Development Corporation is to create and preserve affordable housing units.  CGDC is a non-profit subsidiary of Community Teamwork, Inc. (CTI) that was created to address the crisis in affordable housing by producing more affordable housing units and preserving existing apartments at affordable rent levels.

Our History

Common Ground Development Corp. was formed in 2002 with the mission to build and preserve affordable housing in the Merrimack Valley. Its first construction project was the successful completion of 15 units of 2 and 3 bedroom rentals in the Town of Westford. CGDC also acquired an existing property at 205 Worthen Street, Lowell and converted the run-down 13 unit SRO into three 3-bedroom units. Common Ground purchased 26 affordable units at 420, 423, and 430 Broadway in Lowell in order to preserve them as affordable, and has since added three additional units by converting unoccupied commercial space at 430 Broadway.

CGDC also converted the vacant historic Old Towne School in Acton into 15 apartment units, and constructed 36 new 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units in Westford which were added to the original 15 units to make Stony Brook Village.

Common Ground has  assisted CTI with the acquisition and renovation of a 3-decker at 767 Merrimack Street into a Homeless Family Shelter, the renovation of a second Homeless Family Shelter at 360 Pawtucket Street, and an apartment building at 52 Princeton Boulevard. Working with CTI’s YouthBuild Program to help train out-of-school youth in the construction industry, Common Ground also constructed two duplexes at 346 Pawtucket Street and 9 Sagamore Street in Lowell which were sold to qualified first-time home buyers.
