About This Program

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lowell matches youth, ages 7-15 with caring, adult mentors to serve as another trusted adult and role model in the child’s life.  Our vision is that all children achieve success in life. We strive to accomplish this by providing children facing adversity with strong, enduring, and professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Big Brothers Big Sisters operates two mentoring program styles: community-based and site-based. In the community-based program, volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters spend quality 1:1 time with a child out in the community, serving as another positive adult in the child’s life, a good friend, and good role model. Activities shared range from exploring a common interest, to taking a walk to baking cookies at home. In the site-based program, mentors meet with their Little Brother or Sister under staff supervision at a designated place and time weekly. When the site-based program takes place at a school, the time is split between academic and social activities. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lowell has two site-based programs at the Stoklosa Middle School in Lowell, MA, and the Dutile Elementary School in Billerica, MA.

Who are Big Brothers and Big Sisters? They are every day citizens who want to have fun and make a difference in the life of a child. To get involved as a volunteer mentor, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ staff will work with you to make the process as easy as possible. New volunteers must be over the age of 18, and be able to make a one year time commitment to the program, and complete an intake which includes an application, interview, training and background check. To learn more about volunteering or receive an application, contact  bbbs@commteam.org or download the application here  Big Brother Big Sister Volunteer Application.

To get a child enrolled for a Big Brother or Big Sister, the child must be between the ages of 7-14 and reside in one of the 17 communities. Any one can make a referral to the program, but the parent/ guardian needs to be in agreement to the program, and the youth must want a Big Brother or Big Sister. Program staff must complete the enrollment process to determine youth suitability, which includes meeting with the parent and child. For a child application, please contact the listed staff members, Big Brother Big Sister Child Application.

Our event will feature a great day of golf, and includes a putting contest, 2 hole-in-one contests, and a chance to get on the green with the Leader Board AirCannon. One of the only Thursday afternoon tournaments in the area, this is a perfect way to entertain clients and network in an exciting setting – all while supporting children and families in need.

Sponsorship packages are available to provide you added recognition and business opportunities at the event. Register today and be sure to invite your friends and colleagues to register as well. If you have any questions, please contact us: Bridget Quinn 978.654.5679.

If you are unable to attend, please consider a donation of any amount to support children and families in need. Tax Credits (CITCs) available for donations of $1,000 or more. For more details, please contact Kathleen Plath at 978.654.5640. Thank you!
