Calvin’s Story
Calvin Delgado’s journey is a powerful example of growth, determination, and leadership. From the moment he joined YouthBuild, it was clear that Calvin wasn’t just there to pass the time—he was there to change his life. With a quiet confidence and a sharp focus, he dove headfirst into the construction track, quickly gaining hands-on skills and respect from his peers and instructors alike. He showed up early, stayed late, and never hesitated to take on a challenge. His passion for learning and steady work ethic set the tone for others around him.
Over time, Calvin’s commitment opened new doors. He earned his driver’s license—a major milestone that gave him greater independence and responsibility. Not long after, his leadership potential caught the attention of staff, and he was offered a role as Junior Staff. In this new position, Calvin stepped into his own as a mentor, guiding students through their own YouthBuild experiences. Whether he was helping on construction sites, walking a new student through expectations, or offering a listening ear during tough days, Calvin was there. His presence was calm, strong, and always encouraging.
Calvin’s dedication went beyond the classroom and job site. He was invited to attend Conference of Young Leaders (CoYL) through YouthBuild Global, where he traveled to advocate for the YouthBuild program on a national stage. There, he shared his story, his experiences, and his passion for the program, becoming a voice for students across the country and highlighting the importance of second chances and strong support systems.
Although Calvin didn’t stop there. He became a central figure in YouthBuild’s culinary events, taking part in nearly every function that came through the doors. He helped set up, serve, clean, and represent the program with pride. In every setting, he brought the same sense of professionalism and heart. His willingness to step up, even outside his primary field, showed his versatility and drive to support his team in any way possible.
Calvin also explored other avenues of professional growth. Through YouthBuild he completed an internship with the Maintenance Department at Community Teamwork, where he quickly impressed staff with his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability. That internship turned into a job offer, and Calvin is now a proud CTI maintenance worker another milestone in a journey fueled by perseverance and purpose.
Now, as a valued staff member at Community Teamwork Calvin continues to make an impact. He is the type of person others naturally look to, someone who leads not just with words, but through consistent action. His journey from student to Junior Staff to CTI employee is a testament to what can happen when opportunity meets work ethic. Calvin Delgado is more than a success story, he’s a role model, a leader, and a reminder that with resilience and support, the path forward can lead anywhere.
